Black women would not see full voting rights realized until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Their perseverance through exclusion and opposition demonstrated profound faith in God's justice and America's potential for redemption. This day reminds us that freedom's journey requires continuous struggle and unwavering commitment to equality for all God's children.
Arizona Grandmother Bakes Birthday Cakes for Forgotten Nursing Home Residents

# Mother Teresa of Calcutta **Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu** (1910–1997) left her Albanian home at eighteen to join the Loreto Sisters in Ireland, then spent decades teaching privileged girls in Calcutta. In 1946, riding a train to Darjeeling, she felt "a call within a call"—to serve the poorest of the poor. The Catholic hierarchy initially resisted. Archbishop Ferdinand Périer made her wait two years before releasing her from the convent in 1948. She traded her habit for a white sari with blue trim, learned basic medicine, and opened her first slum school under a tree in Motijhil. By 1950, Rome approved her Missionaries of Charity. She picked up a dying woman from a Calcutta gutter and convinced authorities to give her a former Hindu temple—Kalighat, the Home for the Dying. Her sisters bathed wounds, held hands, and whispered dignity into forgotten lives. **Why it matters:** Mother Teresa proved that faithful presence with society's most abandoned—not programs or press—transforms both the served and the servant.

When Strength Fails, Look Up
Sennacherib trusted in Nisroch, the eagle-headed god, yet found no deliverance. But God's people who wait upon the Lord receive something greater: "They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary" (Isaiah 40:31).
Perfection isn't achieved through our strength or false gods, but through surrendering to our Father. When we wait on Him, He transforms our weakness into soaring faith.
